Tonight at yoga I was taught a new breathing technique I think will be very useful for the Kili climb.
It is the bhramari technique otherwise known as the bumble bee breath!
Sitting comfortably in a cross legged or lotus position, with shoulders relaxed, inhale through your nose, with your mouth closed. Exhale slowly making a long low humming sound.
It is honestly the easiest thing! Even if you’re not into yoga, you can do this if you’re having trouble falling asleep. Although whoever you’re sleeping near may wonder where the humming is coming from.
To intensify you can cover your ears with your thumbs and your eyes with your fingers.
It is very calming and releases serotonin, a neurotransmitter which regulates your mood, sleep, memory and appetite. The technique is also helpful for lung expansion which is why I say it’ll be useful for Kili!
